Peaches & Herb:
A Legacy of Love and Soul

Peaches & Herb, one of the most iconic duos in soul and pop history, are known for their unforgettable harmonies and timeless hits like "Reunited," "Shake Your Groove Thing," and "I Pledge My Love." The duo’s journey is a testament to the power of music, perseverance, and the enduring bond of collaboration.

Herb Fame, born in Washington, D.C., faced early challenges growing up in the tough, crime-ridden Barry Farms neighborhood. Raised by a single mother with deep spiritual roots, Herb was inspired by gospel music and the musical talent of his older brother, Alphonso. While Herb started his musical journey in the church, he also admired secular artists like Sam Cooke and Little Anthony, and he dreamed of making it in the world of popular music. His powerful voice and natural ability to hit high notes helped him win local talent contests and eventually land a meeting with famed producer and songwriter Van McCoy.

It was McCoy who saw the potential in Herb and paired him with Francine Barker, the lead singer of McCoy's group, The Sweet Things. Together, Herb and Francine formed Peaches & Herb, and the duo quickly achieved success with hits like "Let's Fall in Love" and "Close Your Eyes." Their smooth, romantic sound became synonymous with the era’s soul and pop music, and Peaches & Herb became a household name.

However, after years of grueling travel and performances, Francine left the duo, and Herb returned to Washington, D.C., where he briefly worked as a police officer. Despite taking a break from music, Herb’s passion for performing never faded. He reconnected with legendary producer Freddie Perrin and, with a new partner, Linda Green, the duo returned to the spotlight. Linda Green, who became the new "Peaches" in the late 1980s, brought a fresh energy to the group, and together they recorded the massive hit "Reunited," which became one of their signature songs. Other hits like "I Pledge My Love" and "Shake Your Groove Thing" followed, securing their place as one of the most beloved duos in pop and soul music history.

While there have been a few changes in the lineup of "Peaches" over the years, Linda Green remains the most recognized and longest-standing "Peaches" since joining Herb in the 1980s. Together, they have continued to perform on stages worldwide, keeping the magic of Peaches & Herb alive for generations of fans.

Herb’s musical journey has come full circle with his recent solo album, From Her Through Me: A Tribute to Women of Music, which honors the women who have influenced and inspired him, including his wife Yvonne and his mother.

Today, Peaches & Herb remains a symbol of musical longevity and resilience. From the soulful ballads of the 1970s to the dance anthems of the '80s and beyond, the duo’s legacy continues to captivate listeners, proving that their harmonies, love for music, and enduring partnership are truly timeless.
